Quick & Easy Way To Compare Diamonds
How do you compare apples with apples when it comes to buying diamonds? Before parting with your hard-earned cash, it’s worth knowing what to look for in a diamond. And fortunately, It’s a lot easier than you’d think.
At Duffs, we urge customers to ask questions about diamonds and challenge your jeweller. The first question you should ask is: Does it come with recognised certification?
Most of our diamonds are supported by a certificate issued by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
GIA provides an independent gemological assessment, and while not the only recognised grading laboratory, it is renowned for having the strictest and most consistent standards.
GIA grades each stone in the four elements of carat weight, colour, clarity and cut. In fact, GIA created the 4 Cs grading system.
Having this certification helps the jeweller explain why one diamond is more (or less) valuable than another, and provides the customer with peace of mind.
Certification empowers clients to compare apples with apples, so to speak. It is the best way to be sure you are getting exactly what you have paid for.
Certification aside, a stone still needs to “sing out to you”. Sometimes a less than perfect stone will sing to you very loudly. And that’s perfectly fine too.
